It has been estimated that more than 125 million people use contact lenses worldwide, which is approximately 2% of world population. In United States alone more than 35 million (which is about 10% of US population) people use contact lenses and next in terms of number is Japan (approximately 13 million). And bigger share of these 125 million contact lens users are women.
Contact lenses are used for various reasons namely for correction of eye sight and for cosmetic purpose. And for the second purpose, women users of contact lenses outnumber male users by a big margin. For correction of eyesight the use of contact lenses are more practicable than using conventional glasses in many different fields. In compare to conventional spectacles or glasses, contact lenses are less affected by humid weather and they do not steam up, and provide a much wider field of vision than glasses. Contact lenses are also much more suitable in case of sporting activities than glasses.
Use of contact lens do not change your looks the way it changes if you are wearing conventional glasses and that is one of the main reason for the popularity of contact lenses among women. Practically contact lenses are invisible.
